Transforming Campus into a Festival-Style Experience

For the Imperial College London Summer Ball 2025, Fusion Sound & Light delivered a full event production package, transforming campus into a festival-style celebration. With over 2,500 students in attendance, we provided three stages, sound and lighting hire, video walls, power distribution, special effects, and full technical support. The result was one of the most ambitious and memorable university ball productions in London.

Main Stage: Festival-Style Event Production

Our 8m x 6m main stage was the centrepiece of the Summer Ball, designed to deliver maximum impact for a 2,500-strong audience. To achieve a professional festival-style production, we supplied a full lighting, audio, video, and special effects package.

Lighting Rig:

• Fury 200 DTW IP65 2-Cell Blinders for powerful audience interaction
• Evora 740ZP Zoom Washes for rich colour and flexibility
• Chauvet Color Strike M hybrid strobes/washes
• Spectra Flood 18HEX10 PRO for bold floods
• Robe Pointes for sharp aerial effects

Atmospherics:

• Tourhazer 2-SF and Smoke Factory Data II for haze and beam shaping

Special FX:

• Spark machines, CO₂ cannons, and Laserworld CS12000RGB FX Full-Colour Lasers for dramatic festival-style energy

Video Wall & Live Streaming:

• Dual flown video walls positioned either side of the stage, delivering live streams of the main stage acts and artist-generated visual content for performances
• Created a high-impact visual experience for the crowd, ensuring every guest had the best possible view

Sound System:

• A professional PA system designed and tuned for a 2,500-person audience, delivering crystal-clear audio across the entire event site
• Full Pioneer DJ kit, including the latest Pioneer CDJ decks and mixer, ensuring headline DJs had the industry-standard setup they rely on

This setup showcased our ability to combine lighting hire, video wall production, and event sound systems into one seamless large-scale London event production package.

Second Stage: Queens Tower Rooms – Live Band Setup

Our 6m x 4m stage in the Queens Tower Rooms offered a more intimate live music experience.

• Full backline support for live bands
• Retro lighting fixtures created a nostalgic, warm aesthetic
• Designed as an alternative stage to the DJ-driven main arena

This setup proved our versatility, with event production tailored to live performance environments.

Third Stage: Library Café – Chillout Zone

The Library Café stage provided a relaxed space for alternative performances.

• Martin Audio PA system for crystal-clear sound
• Ambient uplighting to set a calming tone
• Perfect as a chillout area for guests to unwind

This stage demonstrated how AV production and lighting design can completely transform a venue.

Site and Architectural Lighting

Beyond the stages, we elevated the entire event site with architectural lighting and outdoor solutions:

• Festoon lighting in chillout areas
• Campus architectural uplighting to highlight Imperial’s historic buildings
• Practical site lighting for atmosphere and guest safety
• A custom-built truss cube entrance, fully lit, to create a dramatic arrival moment

This ensured the entire Summer Ball felt immersive, connected, and visually stunning.

Technical Expertise

Our team of sound engineers, lighting engineers, and video technicians managed all three stages and site-wide production. From event rigging and AV setup through to live event operation, every detail was executed seamlessly.
